How Scarlett Johansson Really Felt About Those Vulgar ‘SNL’ Jokes About Her

Michael Che can breathe a sigh of relief. Scarlett Johansson is not gunning for him after writing that vagina joke delivered by none other than her husband, Colin Jost, on “Saturday Night Live.”
In a new interview with InStyle, the 40-year-old mother of two called the joke “so vulgar.” The joke she and everyone have been talking about came during a “Weekend Update” segment on “SNL” for its Christmas episode. Every year, Che and Josh do a joke swap, with both Jost and Che having no knowledge of the joke until they read it live on the air. Jost had a feeling something sinister was coming when a roast beef sandwich appeared on the screen to close out the segment.
“Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu,” Jost began reading the joke while struggling to contain his laughter. “But I ain’t trippin’. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”
“I just can’t believe that they went there,” Johansson told InStyle. “I was like—it was so gross. It was gross. And, like, old-school gross.”
To her credit, Johansson laughed throughout her interview with InStyle, so she seemed to be a good sport about it.
“My experience of it was so funny,” said Johansson, who told the magazine that producers gave her a heads-up about Che having written a “vagina joke.” That being said, Johansson had no clue that the vagina joke would be about her.
“I was like, ‘I mean, it’s a vagina joke, how bad could it be?'” she said. “And then as soon as the Costco photo came up, I was like, ‘No! No, Michael!'”
After Jost delivered the joke, an audible gasp could be heard, but things took a turn when the camera cut to Johansson reacting live while backstage.
“The fact that it took on a full ‘To Catch a Predator’-style reveal or whatever,” she said, laughing. “That was so intense. All of a sudden, it was like a whole bunch of people holding up lights, and a guy with a video camera.
