Ariana Grande, Millie Bobby Brown, or Sabrina Carpenter for Britney Spears’ biopic? Who is in the lead?

Britney Spears’ biopic is officially moving forward at Universal Pictures, with the studio securing the rights to her bestselling memoir The Woman in Me. While Wicked director Jon M. Chu is confirmed to lead the project and Marc Platt is on board as a producer, there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes. Insiders told Life & Style that some of Hollywood’s biggest young stars are battling it out for the chance to play Britney. And from what we’re hearing, it’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive casting races in years.

Who’s in the race to play Britney Spears?

The upcoming biopic is based on Britney Spears’ The Woman in Me. The pop icon, 43, is very involved in bringing her life to film. According to Life & Style, Britney has a lot of say in who will land the leading role, and she has plenty of options to pick from. “She’s such a huge inspiration to Gen Z,” a source shared. “These girls have grown up listening to Britney’s music. To them, she’s an icon. And with John M. Chu directing, this movie is already seen as a career-making opportunity.”

Millie Bobby Brown

Stranger Things breakout star Millie Bobby Brown has made her intentions pretty clear. She’s very interested in playing the lead role in Britney Spears’ biopic. Recently, she was even spotted rocking bleach-blonde hair, which many believe is her way of getting into character. “I mean, she’s [Britney] an absolute icon,” Millie told Access Hollywood at the premiere of her new movie The Electric State. “I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story.”
