Jennifer Lopez Shares Heartfelt Tribute as Donatella Versace Steps Down as Creative Director

Jennifer Lopez is honoring her longtime friend and fashion icon, Donatella Versace, following the designer’s decision to step down from her role as Versace’s creative director after nearly 30 years.

A day after the announcement, Lopez, 55, took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to the 69-year-old fashion legend.

“Gianni would be so proud,” Lopez wrote, referencing Donatella’s leadership of the Italian fashion house after the tragic 1997 murder of her brother, Gianni Versace. “What a journey you have been on.”

She continued, “You are strong, resilient, powerful, talented, and I am so happy that I have gotten to know you over the years. Our journey together and the friendship we have formed has been incredible.”

While Donatella is stepping away from the creative director role, she will continue to serve as Versace’s global ambassador. Meanwhile, Dario Vitale, formerly the design and image director of Miu Miu, will take over as the brand’s chief creative officer starting April 1.

Lopez has long been one of Versace’s biggest supporters, famously wearing the iconic green jungle dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards—a moment that made fashion history and even led to the creation of Google Images. Over the years, the two have continued to collaborate, solidifying their bond both professionally and personally.

With Donatella moving into a new chapter, Lopez’s heartfelt words serve as a testament to their enduring friendship and the designer’s lasting impact on the fashion industry.
